Jeesus, ive been on a coffee amped weekend here trying to sell my 4g 20gig ipod. I swear ive called about 15 of my close friends, and they have spoke to about 2 more people each about it and ive gotten no bites.

Ive had my thread updated and im a reputable seller (17-0-0) been here for years too but just recently started trading/selling.

But man i feel like im running on a treadmill here, are Ipods going out of style or what? I guess lots of people are more interested in the newere players like the iRiver and other branded video/mp3 players.

damn!!! (just ranting a bit as im running out of steam!)

EDIT *charity bumps are appreciated lol :)

Aren't the newer generation iPods with much longer battery life and the new processor supposed to be out soon?

Edit: And there's always eBay. You can probably get more than you payed for the damn thing with that group of idiots. Try selling it there.

Maybe your price is too high?

Edit: Haha, yeah, having your name on the back is a big turnoff too.

yeah, i agree even though its really small. Ive seen a few others go around with names on them too.

Maybe i should ebay it. Ive just never been a big ebay fan.

*and yes im afraid of new Ipods coming out and shooting these 4th gens down the drain taking the value with them. But that wont be for a while.

For the most part I think ATers are intelligent enough to not buy inferior & more expensive products. Birds of a feather tend to flock together, so I'm guessing that as an ATer, your friends are of above average intelligence as well. Hence you've had predictable trouble selling it here and to friends. As was suggested, try ebay. Many very stupid people use ebay.

$225 is an iffy price. But your name alone should subtract another 50-75 dollars.

I knew when I bought my iPod with an engraving that it would be hard to sell. So when I'm done with my ipod, I'll sell it "as is" if it's broken, or if I want a new iPod, i'll just hand it down to a family member

I agree, although even though this may be a generally smarter "community". Ipods where all the rage, "trendy" for lack of a better word.

And its not like they are bad MP3 players, they do the job very well. But yes they cary a hefty price tag.

Don't worry about him - he threadcraps any chance he gets, especially when it comes to iPods. As far as your selling troubles, it's most likely a combination of the engraved name and the short notice. The price might also be factoring in, as one can buy a new 20 giger for 75 more with no engravings and the brand new product feel. Drop it down to 200 and you might get more hits.

So you mean pretty much any Apple product? Or just ones starting with an "i"

That is a good rule to follow, i think the only Apple product i would personnaly pay for is the ipod and ipod mini. They are Apples flagship product obviously.

I have a G5 sitting on my desk at work and i love it, but would never shell out the dough for one.

I'd say it is a piss poor rule. There are certainly cheaper alternatives, but more useful is doubtful. Apple is king of interface design, and few other tech companies make technology as easy to approach and actually use as they do.

Only an idiot could think I was threadcrapping, and only a hypocrite would threadcrap because of a perceived threadcrap. The OP asked a question, I gave two possible answers backed up by fact.

Seeing that mine is 2 months old, with my name on the back, and i actually used it (meaning that there are some scratches on the back but the front is perfect).

I think my asking price of 215 shipped is fair.

EDIT: nice civic btw M4H- ;)

Present your facts then. Stating that the iPod as a whole is inferior and more expensive does not constitute fact. That is opinion. You've rendered a judgement based upon criteria that you selectively chose due to your inherent biases. For instance, your notion of inferior may depend upon ultimate sound quality. But for others, the interface of the device, the interface to the computer, and aesthetics may matter. More expensive is hard to quantify, as the size of the device is certainly relevant here. Flash based players are much more expensive on a $/GB ratio, but they win the size war hands down. Similarly, within HD based players, the iPod is one of, if not the smallest player on the market. When you combine price with features and interface, any argument you have about the iPod being an objectively inferior product falls on its face.

A lot of people got or gave themselves players for xmas

Half the people here steal music in MP3 format so have no interest in buying songs from Apple, or using itunes and AAC

People who care about audio quality like me buy and rip from CDs, but I have a Zen Xtra since for $200 I got 30 GB instead of 20. That lets me fit another 100 of my CDs at 192 kbps.

The iPods are nice, just not -100 CDs nice enough for me. But good luck, and definitely consider eBay since there are more "joe average" folks there willing to pay for ease of use. Like the Microsoft executives in a recent news story who admitted they "couldn't get their WMA-based players to work" so they bought ipods :)
