if I did that to my parents at 16, I'd have lost teeth.

I think you are allowed to spank your children tho without fear of legal recourse. Imagine the embarrassment of being put over pa's knee.

I think your parents handled it properly but if he does it again, and your parents run out of leverage, he deserves a good beating.

Not a happy situation by any means....sorry.

That said, I like the approach your Dad is taking a lot better than the "kick ass" option favored by most here. While physical punishment or intimidation may work for pre-teens, it just isn't a good idea to try it on teenage boys. I'd be worried that if either you or your father try to punish him physically that the confrontations might escalate until someone gets hurt seriously.

All it will take is for your dad to haul off and lay him out one time.

When he wakes up he will probably appreciate and respect him more

Hopefully someday he'll realize just how fortunate he is, and be thankful. It took me a little while to realize just how fortunate I was/am growing up.

Yea, you wanna hear something funny guys? :D

HE WANTS TO JOIN TEH MARINES!

How is he gonna get through that if he doesn't even respect his father?

I would encourage this. In the marines the one thing he just might realize is that he needs his family's support.
