About 4 Months ago we took him into the vet because he was scratching a lot, and he has never been a scratcher.. The vet gave him a cortizone shot.
Then about a Month ago we took him back in saying that he is still scratching, so we had to take him off his food/treats/toys EVERYTHING and put him on a limited ingredients diet. Ok, so at this point I felt bad for him, he has to eat crappy food and doesnt get any treats or anything..
Well on Sunday of last week, I let him outside around 2pm and he went after a squirl, and during a turn he tore his ACL on his right hind leg. 🙁 I though he had just twisted his leg funny or something, but later my wife felt his hind leg because he wasn't walking on it, and she could feel the bones crunching together.. So we took him to the emergency vet clinic at 11pm that night.
Well we had to have the $3000 TPLO surgery on him (fun during holiday season) so he got all shaved, and operated on, and now we have to confine him to limited areas. Our house is an "Atrium Split" so basically 4 half levels, meaning stairs everywhere. Vet said he shouldnt be doing many stairs, which sucks because he always wants to be where we are, and we have to keep him in the basement so we can let him out. Also when he goes outside he has to stay on a leash so he doesnt chase any more squirls or any thing. Also when we leave we have to keep him in his kennel that he has not had to stay in for 2 years.. 🙁 🙁
So now christmas is coming up, and we can't take him with us, he will have to go to a kennel for the weekend instead of going with us.
Btw: He is a 4year old Chocolate Lab named Brody.
Poor dog.
