Fixed to remove unnecessary ageism.
No I'm talking specifically about the recent surge in retirees murdering people in situations where their lives were not in danger. I do believe age is salient in the crimes I'm talking about, it's no different than mentioning the age of the victim here, which I noticed passed Necessary muster.
Dementia with paranoia, it's a pretty terrible mix with guns. There's no real reforming that, which is why I stand by my wishing for us to be able to do
something to stop stuff like this before it happens. Age is relevant, it's why we don't let 10 year olds drive cars and carry guns. Pretending it doesn't matter on the other end of the spectrum is ridiculous, ignoring the reality of aging isn't a solution. Mental acuity screening and common sense guns laws could be. I'll be that old someday myself, and I'm not advocating anything I wouldn't participate in with a smile.
Seriously though, I have a difficult time believing a millennial would have done the same thing in his position. Being more tech savvy, they probably wouldn't have lost their shit over assumptions on a scam attempt. I'd also like to believe that even if angry, the millenial disregarding "respect your elders" to the fullest extent possible with an elderly minority woman with mobility issues wouldn't happen.
This perp was a young man during the Civil Rights movement. Anyone want to put a fiver on what his chosen political and cultural leanings are?
