Last time I checked, doesn't it take a significant amount of effort to maintain the exact pace and positioning required when actually jump roping? With this you just clumsily bounce around. Seriously, just go running or something, then do a few min of weight training.

Hold a weight and make the motions if you are that hardcore.

What about the coordination? What about the sound of the rope slapping the floor, keeping a rythym? Does this thing come with a metronome?
