No, you refrigerate it and stir nor less than every 2-3 hours. Get a bottle with a wide opening so you can stir more easily. Dove is best, it also helps to leave just a bit of moisturizer in there as it has chemicals which help to keep it liquid.

Where this guy messed up was the smell, because you are diluting a product usually with a lot of perfume you need to replace that perfume as well. You can find concentrated bottles of generic shampoo/soap/moisturizer smells in most larger drugstores. Get the ones which are colorless as you want to keep your cream white.

Rather than gifting a moisturizer bottle it's often best just to find out what she uses and replace that. Much less apt for suspicion that way.
