Texas is one of the last places I would live.

QFT. Everyone I know who's moved there has moved back within a couple years.

My Mother-In-Law is from there and my wife has been there many times to visit relatives and she hates it there. So, I'll pretty much never live there...which is fine with me.

TX > NY > CA

Uh... no.

You are comparing the social and economic capitals of America to a relatively useless state.

Your ignorance astounds me.

I also love all the California fanboys in this thread. Thanks guys, a thread about Texas isn't complete without you assclowns.

your 'fifth largest economy' wouldn't be anywhere near as large without the cheap electricity from neighboring states nor the subsidies of the other states public universities.

i wonder how much of that 'economy' is just people selling their houses for ever more ridiculously large numbers?

Hmm, why have I seen more companies move to Texas. I did a wikipedia on Dallas. I find this interesting.

Dallas was named a "Gamma World City" by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network (GaWC). The metro area is the largest concentration of corporate headquarters in the United States.

TX = CA

Fixed again. Both California and Texas are excellent states. I can't comment on New York however, since I've never been there. And anyone who says either Texas or California are the worst have never been to New Mexico.

EDIT: Aw, I spent my 2000th post on this topic.

California:
pro-5th largest economy in the world
con-likely has the 1st largest tax rate in the country. Sales tax just about as high as TX, AND state income tax, which TX doesn't have

pro-Texas is full of ignorant morons
con-California is MORE full of ignorant morons (I know, I've lived in both states). The only difference being that most people in CA didn't learn how to drive in either an old pickup truck or a John Deere tractor.

Really, I can't blame you if you want to be a Cali fanboi, but please don't slam TX if you haven't lived there. I spent 10 years living in California, and have been in Texas for going on 6 years now, and they both have their pros and cons. California traffic is much worse than Texas traffic, tho drivers in both states tend to be quite insane.

All in all, the biggest difference between the two states is the attitudes. In CA, you're more than willing to put up with the tree huggers, and have had higher taxes, higher gasoline prices, and rolling blackouts as a direct result of them. In TX, we'd tell 'em which rope to piss up, then go out hunting or fishing, or just shooting for the sake of it. They're different worlds, entirely. So if you lean more toward the CA way of life, feel free to live there. In the meantime, please don't tell us how bass-ackwards we are for living in TX, or you might cause us to not want to invite you to the next barbeque. ;)

believe me, California has WAAAY more morons than texas. And i'm not just saying this because I live in Berkeley. SoCal has the worse weather of all- blazing hot 90+ degree weather EVERY FREAK'IN DAY with the exception of maybe two weeks during the winter. The people are also annoying, superficial, and stuck up. Northern California has the exact oppose problem- the weather goes from hot to rain in a matter of minutes, and the people are some of the most intolerant, dirty, fanatical extremists I've ever come across.

moving to texas would not only escape Ca, but provide better steak as well

Sure it can and you seem to forget that the majority of your economy is self serving since the prices are too high to compete outside of your state. You are losing big business that is not coming back. Texas will still be here after you economy crashes too.

Especially the strip malls. My god, Texas has taken strip malls to a whole new level.

The only cool thing about Texas was that there used to be no open container laws. Now that's gone. If you can't drink while driving in Texas there's no good reason to be there.

Texas, they have skeeters the size of falcons there. I'll take black fly season over that any day.

Uh, wtf? I've been to San Diego quite a few times and even in the summer the weather usually stays around eighty degrees. It's Texas that gets really hot.

 This man speaks the truth. BTW what other state has its own beer, not that its any good mind you, but its still there.

Missouri? We got the A-B headquarters and main brewery. It better than all the other non-specialty beer out there.

That said, I'm from Houston and living there right now (sophomore at Rice).

I love texas. Very little superficial bullsh!t. Its true that people tend to have more money than taste and you get some laughable architecture/decorating here and there, but I'd take that over living with elitist snobs from CA.

I'd die in Texas rather than live in LA.

lol, really? I thought Orange County was one of the few Californian counties to have the majority vote Republican. If you think San Diego is bad, go to San Francisco.

Maybe so but Missouri sucks. I was born there and don't plan on ever going there again if I don't have to. I will even miss the funerals of family members to stay away. :)
