Remember, Dragon's Lair? Damn, I spent a TON of quarters back in the day playing that game.

A new version just came out for the Xbox and PC. Has anybody bought it yet? or seen any reviews? I know I'm going to end up getting it for my *ahem* son *ahem* for Christmas.

Heh, I used to have this game for PC in around 1990. Though I never got to play it... I was convinced my brother has password protected it... turns out I just didn't know how to use DOS. :D

Played it. Seems to be pretty cool so far. For the most part, they've kept the same feel as far as the graphics are concerned. The good part is that it's an actual game now, and not just eye candy like the old one was. :)

I read somewhere that this game requires the DVD playback kit to play on the Xbox. You may want to keep that in mind if you do decide to purchase it.

Looks cool though. I never could beat that game. :D

God I hated Dragon's Lair. The only thing worse was that stupid Sega Hologram-3D game that cost a dollar.

I don't remember Dragon's Lair except for the cartoon. I do remember the Sega Hologram game...heh...that was pretty funny. :)

I heard there was a version that worked with pretty much ALL DVD players. The game only requires up, down, left, right, and (maybe) an enter/action button right? You got that on every DVD remote. It would be like surfing a menu.

Space Ace?

I think I liked this so much cuz I was really good at it. None of my friends or cousins were good at it, which kinda made it that much more enjoyable for me.;)

Dude, how old are you guys?! :) I'm 28, and I used to play Dragon's Lair all the time! I was GOOD too! :) People used to give me quarters to watch the game get beat, seriously! :)

I could pass the game without dying a single time. All the game requires is just memorization and slightly quick reflexes ;)

I was never any good at Space Ace, however. Go figure.

So is this version an exact replica of the original game, or is it just based on it? I would like to play the original again... I was in love with the Princess you saved at the end! :)

<--35 years old. I was so addicted to video games back in H.S. that my first period teacher (Art, luckily) used to say "the reason I was late all the time, was because there wasn't a quarter slot on the classroom door". :D

From what I read, the designers tried to keep it as original as possible. Except that you control Dirk in real time 3-D.

That's because the original arcade console was running off a Laser Disc. In 1984 they didn't have the cpu power for realtime cartoon rendering so they just made a game based on a laser disc. Your input told the pickup where to go on the disc. The random access was fairly slow as well. I remember the blank screens between inputs. It was eerie as you would be in suspense for those few seconds wondering if you were going to die! Of course, once you beat it the fun was over (except for bragging to others!) because it was just a matter of timing things right...

Cheers!

PC version... as far as what I would compare gameplay to... not sure.. don't usually play this type of game, but it's your standard run around, fight, pick stuff up sorta game. :)
