Is running system RAM in a dual channel setup better/faster than running in single channel? From what I understand, yes it is, but is 3ghz in single channel better/faster than 2ghz in a dual channel?
right now I have 3 1ghz sticks of RAM in my machine and they are running in a single channel configuration but if I get rid of one of the sticks I can run a dual channel configuration, would the 2ghz dual channel config be better/faster than the 3ghz single config?

I think you're getting "Hz" (frequency) confused with "B" (bytes, or capacity). Presumably you have 3 1GB sticks in your system. Windows performance will be better with more RAM than less, so I'd go with the 3GB of RAM. In any case, the 680i chipset has problems, and may not really run RAM twice as fast in dual-channel mode. However, it should run your first pair of modules in dual-channel mode, and only the last module in single-channel mode, so 2/3 of your RAM will be in dual-channel mode and 1/3 in single-channel mode.
