Man...I need some opinions about speaker stands..

I just bought the Onkyo 770 HTiB and I need some speaker stands for the front L/R speakers. Something around 20" - 25" tall. Does anyone have anything they would like to recommend? How about something for the center speaker? I think putting that on top of the LCD TV is the way to go. Is there equipment to hang the center speaker above the TV? Thanks for the input!

Build them yourself.

Speaker stands are hideously expensive to buy (and ship, since the good ones are quite heavy).

IIRC people were using bead blasting beads to fill their stands. Easier to contain & cleaner than sand, & far cheaper than the metal options (bearings).

You could also mix up a little mortar and send it down the shoot. Once the mortar hardened, they would be solid as a rock - no pun intended. Plus, if you were ever in a situation where someone was breaking into your home, you could just grab one of those speaker stands and knock the shiat out of them. 🙂

Here a link to some speaker stands that don't look too hard to build. I'm sure you could tweak things to your liking.

BTW, what do you think of that system. I'm going in with the rest of my family to buy that same system for my dad this x-mas. How is the sound on the whole? Tried and good DVD's with it yet?

I'm not expecting a lot for the price, but I know it'll blow away those crappy systems they sell at Wal-Mart and such. I wonder how it would stack up against my Denon / Polk Audio system I bought for ~ $2000 5 years ago.
