Bah, you guys.
I like it...so screw you.
It's got a very familiar feel to Kubrick's other film...the Shining...did you guys like that?
Oh, it's a classic, it's just those last few shots, which are...well, they're what I think shrooms might be like...
Well, true (and that part is on now). It's the little subtle things. Hal's soothing monotone voice, how all you hear is the breathing when Dave is outside in the space suit, how Hal sings that song as he is diconnected, and I do like the very end part where Dave is in the room (after the phychedelic part)...
HAL sings "A Bicycle Built for Two" ("Daisy") as he is shut down; this was the first song ever "sung" by a computer, a IBM 7094 computer at Bell Labs in 1961. Furthermore, the lyrics include the phrase "I'm half crazy".

2001 is a great movie. Understanding the ending is a whole lot easier if you read the book.

It's a good film, particularly watched without interruptions
I think TCM played the original, unedited version. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with an intermission screen that goes up for 5 minutes, and there were zero commercials.

TCM is good about showing a movie properly. I hope they eventually do an HD version of that channel.

seems really boring to me and the audio quality is horrible.
It's not fast paced, and it was made in the late 60's...what were you expecting?

Does everything have to be fast paced now? I liked movies back when they actually had dialog in them.![]()

Oddly enough, someone (maybe Roger Ebert) said that 2001 works equally well as a silent film. The film is so well crafted that the viewer doesn't need the dialog to understand what is going on at any given time.
