This sucks! I cracked the LCD screen on my Canon SD550!
Everything else on the camera works fine. It's just that the LCD screen doesnt work. It even lights up, but I can see a black streak where the crack is.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Fix it, sell it, send it off to get repaired....i dunno

A new LCD is going to cost you at least half of what the camera brand new will run. Might as well cut your losses, sell it as-is, and get a new Canon. (I'd cry if my 600 LCD broke)

Not exactly true. If you DIY you should be able to do it for alot less. If the USA is like Canada you'll just need to find an independent camera repair place and have them order the part as Canon won't sell parts to the public.

You might be able to do it yourself. Like JMWarren said, go to a local camera shop and see if they can get you the parts.

I did on mine also during paintball games.. i have pics too but the one on flickr is good enough..

DIY, its VERY EASY, just save all the parts and label them...

I just bought a SD600 last week, and also purchased a screen protector from BOXWAVE. It's not going to make it invincible, but something is better than nothing. Gaurds especially well against scratches.

You can just call the canon parts department and ask for a canon sd550 lcd screen.. You dont need a part number if you find a helpful CSA

Josh64FX, how long did it take you?
are there any springs that will go flying out when I pop it open?
When you put it back together, did everything fit, was the case sealed shut pretty good?

Whoops, didn't know the LCD easily came off. I've taken apart my 600 before but didn't check the screen, thought it was soldered in there.

EDIT: in response to the question - at least on my 600 there are two screws on each side and I believe two screws on the bottom. Will need some very fine phillips heads I think.

It took me roughly an hour.. The springs didnt pop out and nothing came flying.. Its pretty standard. The lcd is like a mini ide cable, just slide it off and connect the new lcd in. When I put everything back, it did fit right but I ended up with 1 screw But it works great.. I had to remove some parts to get access to the LCD screen connector but it wasnt hard.. Take photos while you remove stuff.. Might be helpful in remembering how they go in..

Man I did the same thing to my Sony T6 months after getting it. It pissed me off so f'ing much since I never once dropped it and I even read of others having the same issue.

But I didn't get any sort of extended warranty so I just had to bite the bullet and buy a new LCD and replace it. (not for those that aren't handy with electronics!)

I got the LCD from partstore.com which seemed to be the best site I could find for this sort of thing and I had no issues with them at all and even got my order a few days early.

This was about 6 or so months ago and my camera is still going strong.
