Man gets pulled over by police, boasts of slaying multiple prostitutes

So, he was driving a stolen car, police pull him over and then this:

Krauss admitted he had killed women in Tulsa; Athens, Ga.; Perry, Ga.; Indianapolis; Knoxville; and Dallas.

Did he say these things to waste the time of the police or for the lulz? Seems like some are taking him seriously, even after some of the "victims" were found alive.

Police believe Todd is responsible for a series of rapes and murders of prostitutes who frequented truck stops in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Indiana and Pennsylvania.

The only reason they are investigating is because there is are multiple serial killers who are long haul trucker who did kill prostitutes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and the Southeast. There are reportedly 500 unsolved murders linked to serial killers who are/were long haul truckers.
