In '93 I was stationed at Ft. Hood in Texas and one of the new recruits was robbing a house off base. The homeowner came home and the recruit flashed a gun(so the guy wouldn't follow) and drove off. Texas refused to hand him over to miltary justice which is the tradition in other states. They gave him life in prison. I happened to be in the barracks when his parents showed up months later to pick up his things. It was rough to watch :( , his dad looked like he was permanently punched in the stomach.

yeah, it is strange they didn't hand him over. but theft with military grade firepower is a no-no. i can't say i'm all that sympathetic.
