Man freed from prison after 25 years due to new evidence is still on probation?! And he can't sue as a condition for his release?!?!

If they locked me away for 25 years for something I didn't do, they'd regret releasing me. I'd hunt down every fucker that had something to do with putting me away, and kill them.

Maybe he was an accomplice or was with the people who did the shooting. There's not enough information in the article to really know why he still has 5 years of probation and they are considering his time served as part of the new sentence.

And then you'd be back in Jail for something that you did do. The best revenge is to live well.

Probation isn't all it's cracked up to be. In many states, it isn't just "stay out of trouble". It also involves paying fines and fees, showing up to routine meetings with probation officers, it could limit your abilities to move around the state. So great, you get released from prison, but now you have these other onerous conditions to meet in order to keep staying out.

Sadly this happens all the time in the states. Either people completely wrongly convicted, or just given way too harsh of a sentence for what they did as no circumstances are taken into account. Don't know if anyone remembers Kai the Hitchhiker. He's serving something ridiculous like 56 years for murder because he defended himself from rape. The rapist happened to be a lawyer so of course all his buddies made sure Kai gets the most insane sentence possible. Lots of corruption in the justice system and this completely ruins peoples lives, it's horrible.

DA's, cops, and the rest of the "legal" system are more concerned about their "conviction record" than actually convicting the guilty and making sure the innocent go home.
