It sounds too good to be true: A Dutch engineer named Jarno Smeets has released a video (below), which appears to show him flying like a bird, using little more than the power of his arms to achieve liftoff. The video has quickly spread around the Web in true viral fashion, with more than 850,000 views on YouTube, and the project has been reported as real by publications like Wired and Time magazine. But a quick look at the comments sections shows that the public isn’t buying it.

so fake i wanna fucking throw up, lick it up, throw that up again, and feed that to my cat to throw up and then I would eat it again.

That's the fakest thing I've ever seen. The shakiness of the cam is a sheer giveaway. No one trying something like this would rely on a camera man who can't keep the damn thing focused.

Also, the only way this would work is if the gods decided for a day that physic was WRONG.

This. Except for the "eating it again after my cat threw it up" part. Other than that...this.

Either physics are wrong or some seriously bad ass steroids.

The only human flight so far is in extremely well engineered planes piloted by a very strong cyclist, and even then they can barely maintain lift.

Not even that.

Everything about it looks fake. How he moves, how the fabric reacts to the wind, and how he moves in the air.

Stuff like the Camera looking away when the guy is about to fly is a giveaway that that's the point when the CGI dude is inserting the CGI into the frame.

Also, considering he has very very little forward speed, and the wind isn't blowing particularly hard, he has no lift. Birds fly because they can sense the airspeed under their wings and compensate and glide, producing lift. This guy with almost no forward airspeed is staying in the air between flaps. His sheer weight should cause him to lose 10 feet every second the wind isn't blowing at some 60mph + speed. The physics of flight all point bullshit. Gliders have specially constructed wing areas to glide, this wing does NOT subscribe to any decent design. It should have no ability to keep this guy in the air at all.

Also, the amount of strength required to "flap" those arms would be godlike, there is no way that he can produce enough force to "flap" a wing of that size hard enough to produce lift. Also, bird wings dont just flap up and down. There is an actual movement involved in doing it, because if you just flap up and down, you're just moving air up and down for net 0 lift.

I don't know why this is even an issue. There is no chance that this is real at all. if its some viral video, then people are stupid and need to learn basic physics

Reminds me of the guy who lands a plane with only one wing left on it ;)

Flying with one wing is possible. It's not really "flying" but lift is still produced in military aircraft fuselages and so, the aircraft can maintain some level of control in order to manage to land.

Like I said. It's not really flying. He got insanely lucky and was a ridiculously good pilot.

As you can see, the imbalance of lift caused him to start spiraling, and at the very end, he was struggling to force that plane to lose enough speed at a stable position to lower the lift imbalance.

Insanely good pilot.

i hope you are trolling.... D:

Not denying that part, i understand it IS possible, however the video that you quoted was disgustingly fake.

I only watched it for like a second. I already knew that it was possible for a plane to fly with one wing, so I didn't bother to watch it longer.

Anyway back onto topic. Still fake. Anyone who thinks this is real needs a slap.

It is a fake video though bro.
