I'm probably going to start an entirely new set of drama with this, but the wife and I just had a baby boy and we elected not to circumcise him.
God bless you.

I am circumcised as well as all other males (as far as I know of) on both sides of our family. We could not justify any rational or objective necessity to it and as we live in a society with clean water and soap, the pragmatic advantages of circumcision seem to be dated. Finally, if he wants to get cut later on then it can be his choice. However, maybe I'll save this story and share it with him when he is older and that may influence any such choice.
Absolutely.

While he is an infant, wash him accordingly, to ensure the he does not develop any sort of infection. You will be wiping his butt for while, so there is nothing wrong with washing his equipment.

As you bathe him, and he gets older, get him into the habit/practice of washing his privates all by himself.

And to think, he could have avoided all of this, if he just washed his junk while showering.

It's not that bad,.. pull back the skin hood, soap up the bastard and then douse him with water. I never understood why people think genital mutilation is an option to keep "clean" when we no longer live out in the wild.

Wait...What?

People get their child circumcised so that the child can avoid showering later in life?

Thats icky.

Clamming up automatically makes me assume they fucked up.

A: "You had cancerous ghonorsyphalaids. It was your dick or your life.": ...okay, FML.
B: "We..uhh...we fucked up.": I'll take the keys to your hospital now, please.
C: <silence>, see B.

didnt the guy meet with the surgeon before the surgery to go over the procedure? I though was standard practice. everytime i have gone under the knife or my wife the surgeon ALWAYS has come into the room a hour or so prior to the operation.

Surgeon probably sneezed.

Surgeon: aaachoooo!!.

Nurse: Uh, Doctor, I think you, um.......

Surgeon: Aw son of a bitch. Not again. Somebody add castration to this guy's chart, and if anybody breaths a word of this, I'm cuttin' you next.

Nurse: D:

Why did they have to put him to sleep during a circumcision? I don't believe we're getting the whole story.

you can't and shouldn't pull the foreskin back on a small boy, it's attached to the glans much like a nail. It'll come "come off" when he gets closer to puberty.

infection is very uncommon in anyone except old men, it's such a small concern that in absolutely no way justifies potentially ruining your child's penis. Even if the surgery itself isn't botched, the inevitable decrease in sensation is sometimes so severe the penis is rendered more or less nonfunctional as a sexual organ.
the reason it became normal in the US to circumcise was to stop boys from masturbating, not for medical reasons.

also, if you have phimosis it's almost always treatable with steroid cremes and stretching. There's no good reason to mutilate yourself.

it's a retarded practice and I applaud any parent who breaks the circle of stupidity.

That's a little misleading. At the time (late 1800s), masturbation was considered by the medical community to be a possible cause for a number of conditions. It wasn't entirely puritanical (if that was your implication).

Is it possible that 99.999% of cases do not have major complications, but in .001% of cases, that is, 1 in 100,000 people, there's a complication & removal is the only solution? I haven't had surgery where they neglected to point out that ALL surgery carries risks.

Also, "the patient awoke" - they put him completely under for the procedure vs. a local anesthetic???
