Man dies after being wrapped in duct tape

State police say a Salisbury man died after he was bound with duct tape during a home invasion.

State police say Brookes Harmon, 27, was bound after three masked men forced their way into his home just before midnight Friday and ordered everyone else into a backroom.

State police say Harmon was found unresponsive after the men left about 20 minutes and he was later pronounced dead at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

State police said his body was taken to Baltimore for an autopsy.

Granted robbers have used duct tape to tie people up for a while, but don't know if people have died from it before

Seems like he had a heart attack unless they taped up his mouth and nose.

BTW: The third 'paragraph' makes little sense.

When cops hobble someone and they die, they're accountable. I don't know the specifics, but if the victim was left hog-tied on his stomach and died as a result of just his position, any suspects should be charged.

Is it the police's fault when a low-life uses drugs, is over-weight and completely unconcerned with their health? Well, when they've pissed someone off enough to call the cops, pissed the cops off enough to have them restrained and struggled with the cops hard enough to have their un-exercised, chemically altered, fat-blanket ass heat up to the point of heat stroke... well, of course it's the cops fault they died in custody. 😕

I just finished an online course for continuing education. It was on 'positional asphyxia'. Essentially, the course intent was to make me more mindful of the low-lifes. They just really piss me off. Scams to get drugs, scams to get food & housing on the public dole. It infuriates me. I want to send them to another, less-permissive environment.

while the story is sad, i gotta say that picture of a big ass roll of duct tape is pretty funny.
Yeah, that's just great.

ooOOOOHHHHhhhh, so that's what duct tape is!

I don't really see the relevance of a discussion of police use of force here, but in any case the men who tied this guy up will be charged with first degree murder, because he died while they were in the commission of a felony. This will be true even if the victim was in awful condition and at death's door when they broke into his home and taped him up.

it was tradition in high school stage crew that the night before any play, one freshman would get picked out and ducttaped up inside the lady's bathroom.

that's pretty terrible, did they tape over his mouth/nose or something?

One of the ways I would hope to never die is to have my mouth duct taped while my nose is stuffed up due to a cold. I can imagine that would be an agonizing slow death.

Which was why I linked to this article, although none of them really provided anymore content...

He's definitely not referring to this particular article. Sounds like the class he took really got to him, and almost sounds like he's never encountered the type of people he learned about. Gotta get out more!

Back to the original meaning of this thread. That's a sad story, and the home invaders should be charged with his murder...and it's more than likely that will happen.

It is possible that they were really overzealous in their use of duct tape, I suppose.

Clearly, the answer is to ban duct tape.

Nah, we just need serial numbers on the tape and some type of background check when buying it. Then we need the rolls cut into short pieces, no full continuous rolls.

banning duct tape would be unconstitutional, and cutting it into short pieces would be just dumb. all we need to do is make it so that you must be registered and licensed to carry or own or buy rolls of duct tape. also well set up a safety class so that everyone knows and practices safe taping.

Are you studying to be a judge or an enforcement officer, because they are two different job descriptions, and it sounds like you have them confused.

No just medical stuff. I couldn't be in law enforcement. I'd just lose my job making summary executions. Medicine is more... subtle.
