Man critical after ricin find in Vegas
Police say a man is in critical condition after the deadly toxin ricin was found in his Las Vegas motel room.

Las Vegas police Lt. Lewis Roberts says the man has been in a coma since he was found in his room at the Extended Stay America Motel on Thursday.

He's one of seven people hospitalized after the ricin was discovered. Police have said most were examined as a precaution.

Roberts says police don't think foul play is involved, and the FBI says the case doesn't appear to be terrorism-related.

But authorities aren't sure why the man had a vial of powdered ricin in his room.

Ricin is made from processing castor beans, and can be extremely lethal.

Interesting how the police say the case isn't terrorism related. Is ricin just readily available?
Anyway, we've come a long way from the phony terrorism alerts we were bombarded with for years. Thankfully.

It does seem very suspicious that they refuse to release the identity of this guy. One likely reason I can see for not doing so would be if he is of Middle Eastern descent, perhaps even here illegally to avoid panic. I suspect this story will get buried and fall off the radar fairly quickly if this is true.

Adding to the mystery, police said firearms and an "anarchist type textbook" were found in the same room where the ricin was discovered two days later.

The plot thickens...

Since ricin has only one known legitimate use, cancer research, you really gotta wonder WTF it was doing in a Vegas hotel room. I also agree that it seems rather suspicious that they won't release any details about the individual who's unconscious in the hospital.

Yes, and then claim no foul play or terrorism.

Sounds to me like they need to buy some time to think of an excuse.

Not sure if they're trying to make up an excuse, trrying to find a way to spin it into TERRERISTS, THEY'S TERRERSTS IN VEGAS!, or if they're trying to find a way to sweep it under the rug so we don't actually find out that it IS some terrorist plot, and have it damage W's track record of "No terrorist attacks on American soil since 9-11"
Either way, I figure the spin is about to get pretty interesting...
How can you tell when our government is lying? The lips of one of their "agents" are moving.
(agents is anyone who speaks for the government...lawyers, FBI, etc., not "secret agents")

Oh come on... there was a deadly toxin found in a Vegas hotel room with guns and a shady "anarchist" type book. Are they banking on everyone who reads the news being too naive or stupid to realize that everything in that story isn't exactly kosher?

Back when I was a hazardous materials specialist, we watched a video on how to make ricin. It is easy to make but you don't want to make a mistake.
I wish I could remember the guys name that made the video. He had blown a couple of fingers off one hand making a bomb and was quite a character.

Yes.

Let's recap... Terrorism = Anything disrupting our way of life.
A bag full of enough toxin to take out a large city + Insurgent L:iterature + The Discretionary Spending Capital (Pun intended) of the Free World = Terrorist Panic = Bad For Business.
If we let the mob take care of terrorists, we could have some new night time TV shows.

he finally regained consiousness, he says he just had the ricin for 'self-defense'

SAN DIEGO (AP) ? The man at the center of a ricin scare at a Las Vegas motel says he never had any intention of hurting anyone with the deadly biological agent, his brother told The Associated Press.

Roger Bergendorff, who finally regained consciousness last week after almost a month of hospitalization, possessed the ricin powder found in his motel room in February and believes he was contaminated by it, said Erich Bergendorff, who talked to his brother on the phone Sunday.

"He just confirmed that it was not intended for anybody," Erich Bergendorff said in a telephone interview from his home north of San Diego in Escondido. "It was something that would be used for his own purposes, for self-defense."

I found a picture of his brother. "No no no, we have confirmed the ricin and the Anarchists cookbook were only for self defense!"

only thing I feel like saying in regards to this post, is the Anarchist Cookbook is not insurgent literature. ;)
It's homegrown chaos literature, produced by those teenage rebels who never grew up and are pyro freaks. Hell, it's a great read for those who simply are pyro freaks, like me. Am I a terrorist because I've read some of the cookbook? Some good harmless recipes are in there.
