is it just me or is this a ridiculus case? it would be one thing if the friend watched his friend take 10 shots and stumble into a car and didnt do anything, but according to this he let him off, then his friend went and drank more and 3 hours after he was dropped off he got into an accident

is his friend supposed to be a mind-reader?...

i mean i understand that it might not have been the brightest thing to do, but i dont think he should have to spend a couple years in prison because his friend was a complete moron

edit oops forgot the link

Will wonders never cease? Doesn't the Judge have some sort of veto power when these stupid trials come to court? I mean, it's getting absolutely ridiculous what kind of lawsuits are flying about nowadays.

They need to make an instruction manual on how to search for things. :p

Drunk would've been the key word to search for because, at least to me, is the most likely word to be in a thread title. ;)

Oh, I beg to differ. ;)

On trial for manslaughter, vehicular homicide and aggravated assault related to drunk driving... Yet he wasn't there!

This will in fact have long lasting implications one way or the other.
This is not a simple case of two buddies going out and drinking together and then coming home and one drinking more. This defendant was responsible for the dead drunk since he was released to him at the police station after saying that he would watch him and be RESPONSIBLE for him since he was in the drunk tank for a DUI that very evening.
When people say they are going to take responsible for someone, there need to be implications if they are negligent on that responsibility. But this was a horse beaten repeatedly before. IF you do not want to babysit your friend to make sure they do not cause any more problems, then don't pick them up at the police station and say you would do so. Your friend will be fine sleeping it off in the drunk tank all the same.
