HOUSTON - Police are searching for the men who carjacked and attacked a man in northeast Houston.

Houston police said around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, two men attacked another man who was parked in the Valero parking lot near Jensen Drive and Caplin Street.

When the assailants attempted to take his truck, a witness parked at the gas pump started shooting at the men, according to authorities.

Police said he accidentally shot the victim in the head.

He was taken to the hospital listed in stable condition.

Police found the victim's truck a few blocks away and the assailants are still on the loose.
Nope, this kind of thing could never happen because civilian gun owners are better trained than the Police.:colbert:

So much fail with that troll statement I don't even know where to start.

How is it a troll statement? I'm pretty sure the victim would have been much better off without some idiot trying to be a "good guy with a gun." Losing your car to armed robbers > getting shot in the head (especially after have already gone through the armed robbery).

I've heard those exact words here from people who advocate for concealed carry.

It's just a news story. I'm not advocating anything, you can feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Your choice to live in Kalifornia speaks volumes ;)

There's a pretty good reason why "good guy with a gun" stories with happy endings either involve either ex-military or ex-law enforcement. A lot of American gun owners seem to have this cowboy fantasy where they'll pull out their six shooter, nail the bad guys, and save the day. It's one thing to be able to accurately hit still targets at the range. It's something entirely different to do the same with a moving, thinking target. Especially in close quarters. Even trained cops are going to hesitate at making a shot like that.

Another gun owner took the chance to fulfill his fantasy of taking human life. In this case, he almost took out the wrong one.

I chose to live in California 25 years ago. Never once have I regretted that choice.

BTW-I own guns, but I don't think concealed carry is a deterrent to crime and I have real concerns with exactly this type of shooting or mistaken identity shootings happening as a result of concealed carry.

The shooter is damned lucky he didn't kill that guy and if I were him I would seriously reconsider whether or not I wanted to carry after an incident like this. I think most sane people would.

Hmm...this doesn't sound like the behavior of a typical law abiding concealed permit holder:

Police say the witness who shot at the suspects picked up shell casings and left the scene.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't prove or dis-prove anything. I constantly see both sides making this mistake when discussing gun-control.

So, you're saying he was shooting at the victim to aide the carjackers?

No idea where you got that from.

I'm saying the shooter cannot be who you implied.

The typical law abiding concealed weapon carrier would not pick up the shells and leave the scene.

The shooter is most likely not allowed to own a gun. Not a typical civilian gun owner.

None of the stories about a CCW holder saving someone compares to this story then?

Civilians mess up with guns, military messes up with guns, cops mess up with guns. The actions and outcomes of one event shouldn't be used to blanket an entire topic.

I wonder if you'll ever get tired of being a shitty firearms owning troll.
