I don't condone the act of violence, but is there really any legitimate reason for a civilian to drive a Hummer?
Because they can? What position do you have in life that you can dictate what others do with their money?
Since a Hummer burns so much gas needlessly and a large chunk of change goes to the Middle East to purchase the oil needed to make that gas, I kind of don't like it that some people feel the need to burn far more than needed just to have the biggest vehicle on the road.

Not to mention the environmental consequences.
Do you not use anything plastic that could be replaced with an alternate substance?

Good point.

However, I don't use plastic products to try to intimidate people or make up for physical short comings.

And what kind of car and gas mileage do you get, Moonbeam? :p

Maybe I missed it in the article but it didn't seem like he bought the Hummer just to rain on other people's parades. Don't boys still grow up playing with large trucks? I've always thought that Hummers were cool looking. If it wasn't for the fact that its interior is made out of grocery bag plastic, I probably would've considered getting one. It just seems sad that people who want to fight for grown up topics can't even act like grown ups.

It didn't take long for some of you to recommend knifing, shooting or bombing the perpetrators. This is vandalism, they didn't hurt anyone. Destroying a Hummer is such a blow to your little egos that murder is your response?
I also notice the anti-Prius rhetoric, what is your problem with saving gas?
Oh, and nice troll post, with the ECO-TERRORIST label. This is typical right wing BS, eco-terrorists, I don't know how I can sleep now, there are eco-terrorists coming-to destroy my car.

Vandalism doesn't hurt anybody? Okay, let's destroy your car. Or wait... how about your house? Or your place of business perhaps? That's different, you say? Why? You think you're better than other people just because you've give yourself some kind of ideological label?

This isn't "typical ring wing BS." Show some respect for your fellow human beings and their property, which is the product of their labor. What is BS is your attempts at rationalizing that which simply is not rational, namely your belief that you're somehow helping the world by harming people. Yeah yeah and some religious nuts still think they save souls with the sword -- you're showing yourself as being no different in your mental confusion.

If they were really outraged by the violence the first thing out of their mouths would be "I don't condone violence"

I do like the comment about this being a 'hate crime' maybe if they catch these guys they can charge them with that crime in addition to the others they committed.
Just like you radical righties skirting the issue and trying to spin.

Bottom line is your heroes have created this environment and it is only going to get a lot worse before it gets better until your kind no longer is destroying this country.
Bullshit; come off it Dave. No one here is spinning anything; it's a clear cut case of vandalism. Not a revolution of the oppressed. It's a legal product that was legally bought and paid for. Personal property in the US is just that, personal property; and it doesn't give anyone the right to destroy it.

Um, I'm the OP and you clearly didn't read the comments in the thread or you'd see where I stand on this whole thing, and it's not with who you imply. The Eco-terrorist label was my attempt at sarcasm and apparently too subtle for you.

I get about 31 highway and about 23 around town and use it normally once a week for long trip. And you will note, please, that I only asked a question. I didn't say the fate of the asthmatic was any more a concern to me than the guy in the Hummer. For my local needs I drive a Honda Civic.

I think my main point is that we are trapped as a people by the structure of the society we built. We are economic prisoners of the auto and gasoline companies. We have to drive to work and work to drive. So the rat race, the pollution, and the meaningless robotic life are driving us all insane. We want out but are totally frustrated. It may mean a few Hummers will have to die.

If that is true, I wonder what he would think if a bunch of Prius owers vandalized his caddy.

A few ding ding in the bling bling, if you will. :D

This has little to do with Egos and a lot to do with the destruction of one's personal property. I had my beloved Jeep Cherokee stolen 3 years ago outside of my house in broad daylight. To this day, I still think about wanting to find the bastard that took it and beat him with a tire iron.

There is no justification for the vandilization of personal property. There are much better ways to fight for a cause, especially since doing it this way just polarizes the debate, rather than bringing meaningful arguments to a case and having a chance to sway people and make a real change in this society. You think this guy's going to want to join the cause to improve the environment after being attacked by environmental activists?

I'm all for doing what we can to reverse global warming, but destroying someone's personal property in the name of the environment isn't the way to do it.

True to a point. But it is not so much their fault. They sell only what we will buy. If people stop buying Hummers, they won't try to sell them. If we demand better fuel efficiency, they will sell them, and we'll buy them. I think this trend is already beginning.

The last car I bought was a Civic as well. Plus I work at home. I haven't hit 15K miles on it in the 2.5 years I've owned it.

Unless using less gas = automated cars that make me money without causing inflation, I don't think we're going to ever get out of the rat race. At most we can make the race really slow.

No, this vandalism didn't hurt anybody. AFAIK the legal penalties for vandalism do not include knifing, shooting or bombing. Why don't you show some respect for fellow human beings and not want to kill them for a property crime. Oh, I get it, you value your property more than you value human life.

I never said I was better than anyone, either. However, when my motorcycle was stolen or my car vandalized, my first reaction was not to wish death on someone or want to crush hybrid cars.
Yes this is typical right wing BS, when misguided individuals destroy property they are not automatically eco-terrorists. You are the one who is mentally confused, I never expressed any sympathy for their destruction of someone else's property or any desire to destroy property, and now you are telling me that I want to help "the world by harming people"?

Put down the tire iron, whoever stole your beloved Jeep Cherokee probably did you a favor by taking before the repair bills started to kill you.
You are correct, destroying property is not going to bring people to be environmentally conscious, gas will have to hit $10 per gallon before some people get it.

I bet more people have been killed by SUV's then vandalism, so just call it self defense.

It is a property crime, not a violent crime that harms a person. I didn't say it wasn't a crime, just not a major crime that deserves someone being knifed , shot or bombed.
If you would like to vandalize my car (maybe you already did?) bring it, because it is worth about $400 blue book.
I will simply report you to the police and let them take appropriate action.
Oh, and thanks for the warning.

It is a property CRIME, get it. Notice I didn't say I would knife you or shoot you.
Do you understand that crimes against property are different than crimes directed against persons?
