A Florida man bought a Tesla Model S from a Lamborghini dealership in Newport Beach, Calif., this week. It was the first time the dealer had accepted Bitcoin, it said.

Rather interesting news. It'll be interesting to see how steady (or not) the value of bitcoins are over the next few months and years.

Curiosity makes me wonder if the person could have purchased the vehicle without using bitcoins. Doesn't look like we'll find out considering that the buyer wishes to remain anonymous.

So far Tesla hasn't stated whether or not they will start accepting the currency as the dealership did.

Tesla declined to comment on whether or not the company plans to accept Bitcoin as payment anytime soon

Publicity stunt for Bitcoin of course.

This is news if bitcoin is acceptated for major purchases without the BS of this manipulated transaction and new story.

An improving economy is bad news for BTC as well. The threat of Taper and execution of a real taper in QE will destroy much of the song BTC manipulators sing. So it's a rough path ahead for the coins that represent largely worthless work. Creating money from magic instead of production is nothing new, wall street has nearly perfected it, but it is still a surprise how far down this rabbit hole the dollars are chasing BTC…. even after the recent 50% dive.

The dealership is stupid.

Tell the guy to cash out the bitcoins and bring the cash.

The dealership wasn't stupid. They did their research, knew the currency was volatile and arranged with one of the bit coin companies to lock in price during the finalization of transaction. The dealership got the full usd value they sold the car for.

Yeah, the bitcoin company gave it to them at full market price, they took all volatility risk for free...sure.

I am sure there was a transaction fee for this hedge, it just isn't disclosed.

The Tesla dealer was just glad to unload one of those fire traps.

If it is a firetrap, it sure is one hell of a beautiful one. I see them all the time around here, especially Bellevue and every time I am amazed at what a great looking car they are. A Tesla is the first car I have really lusted over, and I don't think electric cars are "there" yet.

Yeah. Nobody really thinks the dealership kept the coins. This is just a stunt that Bitcoin faithful/zealots will use as examples of how Bitcoin is a real thing, even though 99% of businesses that take it immediately transfer it into USD. It's an entirely pointless wrapper added to the transaction.

Why though? It is stupid. Who is paying the capital gains tax on the investment?

Embracing the decentralization of currency is a major step in throwing off the yolk of an oppressive ruling class.

For the third time in six weeks, a Tesla Model S was destroyed by a fire after its battery was damaged, prompting new questions over the design of its advanced lithium-ion batteries.

I love Ralph Nader!

The reason George W. Bush won Florida in 2000 was that Nader had siphoned away enough Democrat votes for Gore.

Actually it was because Al Gore failed to appeal to those voters who went for Ralph.

In the end elections are about appealing to voters, not blindly voting lockstep like a obedient drone for a person with a D or R next to their name. So yeah politicians have to earn your vote because otherwise you'd have no political competition among parties and you'll just be left with two sides of the same corrupt and dirty coin.
