Police officers are not above the law. The man had every right to do what he did.

"John Coffin won't spend any more time in jail for beating up two sheriff's deputies inside his house, striking one in the head with a Taser gun he took from the other."

The cop actually survived that? :Q

... wow. I'm glad it happened, but I also find it funny that absolutely no one (up to an including the defense attorneys) expected the judge to be on the homeowners' side in this case.

That's very interesting. +1 for jurisprudence.

I would be more impressed if the police where the ones in jail for breaking and entering, assault, and kid napping charges.

Give it time. After this ruling, they very well may have charges pressed against them.

If I was Mr. John Coffin, I'd be looking to relocate. Things like this tend to make your local law enforcement cranky...for a really long time.

Baby steps, smack Down... baby steps.

That kidnapping thing seems like a bit of a reach anyway, although I guess you could make a case for B&E and assault.

Assistant State Attorney Jeff Young told the judge the case "could have been over in five seconds" if the Coffins "had simply come out and cooperated."

And there is what is wrong with many cops. It is NOT the job of the common citizen to make an officer's job easier. Sure, you probably should it most cases, but it is not a requirement. If these guys had their way no warrant would ever be required because it would make their jobs easier.

police officers go to man's house to serve civil lawsuit.
officers talk to man's wife
man's wife refuses to call husband, closes garage door on officers
officers stop garage door from opening, step inside garage uninvited and w/o warrant
officers attempt to arrest man's wife
man comes out and finds his wife being assaulted
man beats up officers
.
.
.
man gets acquitted of 5 out of 6 felony charges, serves no jailtime other than the 8 days in county jail, no probation time
justice served

Haha, i think they just meant he butted the officer with the grip or something, not actually tasered his head

He used it as a blunt force weapon. He did not tase her in the head.

Those cops were extremely lucky they guy didn't do worse to them than he did. I'm not sure how much restraint I could muster in a situation like that. The first thing I would do if I heard my wife screaming would be to grab a gun on my way to her.

Note to self though, if you ever find yourself in this situation use your own weapons, don't take them from the officers.

WTF kind of cops are these that this 56 year old man beats them both up at the same time and manages to take one of their weapons from their belt?
