Personally, I think there's a fourty-five caliber solution to this guys problem. He contributes nothing to society and it's only a matter of time before he kills someone. I don't live there anymore, but my parents and sisters still do.
I would have given him until his third DUI before I applied that solution. 3 strikes and you're out!

BWAHAHA.

DEFIANCE - A 42-year-old, unemployed Defiance man with a suspended driver's license was arrested for the 18th time for driving under the influence of alcohol
Briseno, who lives with his parents, took their sport utility vehicle Monday without permission, the Defiance County Sheriff's Office said.

Simply amazing.
I wonder what you get here in the States for your 18th offense?

my boss drinks a 6 pack of Natty Light on his 25 minute ride home from work everyday, not to mention on his morning and afternoon breaks, and on his ride to work. He reiks of alcohol all day long, yet he still has a job. Aside from the booze and his lack of personnel skills, he is excellent at his job and his knowledge and experience is helpful to our store. Kinda sucks watching him crack one open in the parking lot and drive off.

i was a mutual friend with a guy who got popped for his third DUI. He went to prison for 2.5 years.

When I was a manager at Staples, we hired in a very intelligent guy who was just released from prison. I never knew what he was charged with, but he claimed it was irrelevant. The guy was a phenominal salesman, went above and beyond the call of the job, and exceeded quota for our extended warranties. One of the girls caught him mixing alcohol in his coffee, ratted him out, and he went back to prison for breaking parole. Sucks for him.

States need to start handing out rapidly increasing prison time for guys like this.

Taking their license doesn't work, fining them doesn't work, those stupid vehicle breath things don't work, the only way to keep this idiot off the street is to put him behind bars.

Then again is it worthwhile to spend whatever his yearly keep would be in prison to keep him off the streets?

He's probably driven drunk hundreds of times (to get caught 18), he's probably pretty good at it.

Have you considered that this guy just SO doesn't care, that he'll likely drive without the benefit of a driver's license or insurance? I remember a news story where a judge ordered a multiple dui offender to move to a certain neighborhood, or face jail. The reason? This neighborhood had a grocery store and a bar, both within easy walking distance. The judge pretty much told the drunkard that he now had no excuse to drive, let alone drive drunk, since everything was within easy distance away, and he was capable of walking where he needed to go. It was that, or jail time, and if he showed up in front of that judge for another dui, he'd go to jail for sure.

Is alcoholism a disease? Maybe, maybe not.....I really don't care one way or the other. But society has declared that driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal, and anyone who cannot control their drinking in normal society, and then, knowing that it's illegal to drive drunk, gets behind the wheel of a car while they're drunk, should have ZERO mercy given to them. ESPECIALLY if they're a multiple offender!! This guy should be put into a cell, and the door welded shut behind him. That, or give him the frontal lobotomy that he's slowly been drinking himself towards, and then put a broom into his hand, so he can become a positive member of society!! :|

Can you tell this is a sore point for me?

I know that here in PA these are the mandatories...
1st Offense
48 Hours-6 months
$300-$5,000

2nd offense (within 10 years)
5 Days-5 Years
$300-$10,000

3rd Offense (within 10 years)
10 Days-5 Years
$500-$10,000

4th and Subsequent Offenses( within 10 years)
1 Year-5 Years
$1,500-$10,000

At least this gives a judge opportunity to keep a guy locked up for awhile.
