Yupeng Deng, 51, allegedly gave his recruits military uniforms, had them parade in a Los Angeles suburb and took them to the decommissioned USS Midway aircraft carrier, which is a museum in San Diego
...
he gave himself the lofty title of supreme commander
...
He also allegedly provided them with fake documents and phony military identification cards.

Sad that this con artist is preying upon uninformed immigrants and using their hopes of citizenship to extract money. Hope he gets put in the slammer for a while... after a military tribunal.

As retarded as this is...

I can't help but think it's kind of a cool idea to raise your own army. Makes me want to play mount & blade again.

Until WW1, that was the USA way to raise an army. Teddy Roosevelt's rough riders were just such an outfit. And even though Ole Teddy footed all the bills, The US army still had the right to place their own man in place of top command of the regiment

Aside from telling recruits that belonging to the unit was a path to U.S. citizenship, Deng also urged them to pay him cash for higher military rank, according to prosecutors.

lol i would have totally paid just for the novelty value of having a high rank

In terms of tales out of school, enlisting in the actual US Military was the path that my off the boat Danish paternal grandfather used to attain US citizenship.

Why should we now assume, some 111 years later, that the lure of attaining actual US citizenship might not be a powerful lure in the hands of a con man and a phony.

Not only do I hope that phony is prosecuted to the full extent of the law, I also hope his victims are held blameless. Why should my paternal grandfathers legitimate service to our actual military have more legitimacy than a con man's victim?

Was it a "well-regulated militia"?

I doubt there's a problem with raising your own militia. Right to assemble, right to bear arms and all that. Likely variance in state laws. But here in NC we have militia groups, and they can charge to become a member etc.

Sounds like his big problem is fraud (in the inducement) and fake government ID's etc.

seriously, if I had like Warren Buffett money, I'd raise my own army and go take over Somalia or something.

If it makes you feel better, I've just appointed myself as "Supreme Commander" of AT. I can make you "Deputy Supreme Commander" if you want to write me a check. Here is a custom rank insignia badge, just for you:

This guys needs to be slapped down hard. Non-US citizens can already enlist in the US Uniformed Services and be provided with training/schooling to complete citizenship requirements. I went through basic and tech school with a number of them.

This guy is a lowball con artist.

That does make the concept a LOT more attractive!

I wonder if Israel would grant me dual citizenship if I agreed to serve under parts of their armed forces?

What if I begged to serve under parts of their armed forces?

As JediY in the tactic of the great Hitler lie, "Originally Posted by Lemon law View Post

I just told this forum my Paternal grandfather was Danish, yet JEDIY insists on being a lying sack of shit.

Sadly, how does one compete with JEDIY dishonesty? But JediY, the records are still there at Ellis Island.

Care to put your money where your mouth is JEDIY? Or maybe your might care to find all the Palestinian blood in my maternal grandparents who were both off the boat Finnish.

I also might point out the Jewish 10 commandments, one of which is, thou shalt bear false witness. Which puts you, JediY, on exactly the same moral level as the turd who raised that 100 man army this tread is all about.
