The Vice Chair of Donald Trump’s new “election integrity” commission has been successfully sued four times for voter suppression, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Kris Kobach led restrictive voting initiatives that targeted minorities and perpetuated voter suppression, the not-for-profit legal advocacy group said.

Mr Trump signed an executive order establishing the commission to review alleged voter fraud and voter suppression in the American election system.

Vice President Mike Pence and Mr Kobach, the Kansas Secretary of State, will serve as Chair and Vice Chair of the commission that will "review policies and practices that enhance or undermine the American people's confidence in the integrity of federal elections and provide the president with a report that identifies system vulnerabilities that lead to improper registrations and voting."

After the 2016 election, Trump claimed widespread voter fraud explained why Hillary Clinton emerged with nearly 3 million more popular votes. To date, neither Trump nor his team has provided evidence to substantiate the claims, but they have promised an investigation.

Mr Kobach has been a faithful supporter of Mr Trump’s election fraud claims. In April, he announced the first conviction of a non-citizen voting in the state of Kansas in the 2016 election.

Kris Kobach, vice chair of "Election Integrity" commission, has been sued by the ACLU for voter suppression 4 times.

Our record is 4-0.

12:50 PM - 11 May 2017

However, the ACLU filed a freedom of information request to challenge the basis for the White House’s voter fraud claims.

ACLU’s Voting Rights Project director said: “President Trump is attempting to spread his own fake news about election integrity. Such claims have been widely debunked, but he is still trying to push his false reality on the American public.

“It is telling that the president’s choice to co-lead the commission is none other than Kris Kobach, one of the worst offenders of voter suppression in the nation today. If the Trump administration really cares about election integrity, it will divulge its supposed evidence before embarking on this commission boondoggle.”

The commission is expected to produce its first report sometime next year.

He's also a well known conspiracy theorist on the issue of voter fraud, which is undoubtedly why Trump appointed him to this job. It's kind of brilliant when you think about it. These voter fraud allegations so far have come from the loony fringe and hence have little credibility. So Trump appoints the loony fringe to run an official government inquiry, which then gives the allegations weight they never had before.

I'll be fascinated to see what comes out of this. Kobach I'm sure desperately wants to find lots and lots of voter fraud which means he'll probably find some whether it's really there or not.

Kobach is a fear mongering douche who has ridden the fear of brown people voting to statewide office. This is the same asshole who mentioned that he was concerned about voters in a town in Kansas because lots of people with brown skin were registering to vote.

He has prosecuted 9 cases of voter fraud in Kansas since he obtained the power to prosecute those cases (the only secretary of state in the country with such power). Not a single one of those cases would have been prevented by ANY of the voter ID laws on the book. Also his total of 9 is after years of effort and millions of votes cast. However whenever he is asked about the low numbers he always swears that his office is looking into massive fraud and anytime now they will be announcing new cases.

He frequently cites a database used by states to verify voter registrations as confirming that massive fraud is occurring. Except what he doesn't mention is that the database contains so few data elements most supposed "matches" are really false positives.

In short I live in the same state as this guy and his freaking worthless and pondering a run for governor next year. After 8 years of Brownback blowing up the state budget in the name of golden shower economics the last thing this state needs is Kobach as gov.

This is like 5 different fuckups by the President in a single week. Imagine how this board will look after 4 years of posting Trump's blunders:

Totally called it. Dems need to be mobilizing now to get poor, elderly, and minority voters registered and/or the documents to register.

Not 15 months from now when they enact strict voter ID and have to fight it out in the courts while that crucial percentage can't get registered.

So we've recently got:
  • Jefferson Beauregard Sessions The Third calling for prosecutors to seek maximum sentences - more felons - less voting
  • Donald's church EO - getting the right ones to vote
  • Voter Fraud Commision - reducing voting
They are pulling out all the stops.

I watched Kobach call a CNN host racist for asking if voter id laws reduce minority turnout (they do). Trump will hire any shitbag who will stroke his ego about the things he believes and show a willingness to go out in the world trying to prove them.

I think the thread title needs to be edited to reflect that Kobach lost four out of four law suits over his efforts in carrying out vote suppression.

According to Fox "The White House said the commission will review practices that affect the integrity of federal elections--spanning improper registrations, improper voting, fraudulent registrations, fraudulent voting and voting suppression." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/05/11/trump-to-sign-order-launching-voter-fraud-commission.html

Yes but the FBI hires former hackers to be consultants on security. Why not hire former election frauds to consult on how to prevent future fraud?

Because you can't find any
However you bring up an interesting point. Let's put a 100 million award out there and give immunity from prosecution if someone can prove and describe in verifiable steps how they cast mote than let's say 100 votes.

The only thing we should be taking advice on from anyone in Kansas is basketball. That place has been turned into a conservative utopia, and it turns out that utopia is a flaming pile of dogshit.

Such a silly President Donald is, not satisfied with scrapings from the bottom of the barrow, he has turned the barrow over to find the REAL scum.

It more and more looks to me that this administration is REALLY made of criminals, people who REALLY should be in prison and not governing a country. I mean actual criminals, not just calling them so like we do with most politicians. And here it's just obvious.
