Wow. That must've been a thick plate to send a .50 cal round back at him. And that's also why we shoot at sand, not steel...

so, shoot 50cal, it ricochet bounces RIGHT in front of you, and then hits you... that fucking sucks.

Yeah, I imagine that it lost a significant amount of force from hitting the plate, but it still would have killed him if it was about 2 inches closer.

Wow!! odds must be like a billion to 1 that would happen. Anyone good at calculus? 300 yrs away bullet has diameter of 1.3cm

Calculus? More like geometry. If the plate had been at an angle the bullet never would have bounced straight back.

/edit: Not trying to make fun of you, just pointing out that stupidity trumps chance every time.

Looked up ricochet on wiki and apparently it's not unheard of. However the right conditions have to be there. Heavy plate steel, the right type of bullet and speed, bullet / target angle of 90 deg. All were the case for this guy. Sounds like if they had just angled the plate they could have avoided this possibility.
