Mammatus clouds

Some of those look photoshopped, but being from Tulsa and spending my summers in more rural areas I used to see them.

they aren't photoshopped. i saw something very similar during a thunderstorm. the clouds were very very bubbly and roiling. i'm not sure this is the same cloud or not but it looked scary! :Q

Yea, these clouds are really quite something they usually appear when the upper atmosphere becomes unstable and there is some really turbulent stormy weather. My ex husband is sort of an unofficial expert on meterololgy.. he said they only occur where cumulonimbus are present, and can extend up to 25 miles away from a thunderstorm.

I'm not sure if this is always the case, but on the rare occasions that I've seen those kinds of clouds here in Utah, they were precursors to tornadoes...

Some of them have almost certainly been altered. I used to see these all the time growing up along with everything else associated with them. They're quite a sight.

they precde t-storms, and tornados often

Probably not

The only time I have seen them was after a pretty bad storm last spring. There were tornado watches/warnings along with the storm. After everthing had passed the clouds rolled in. It was pretty surreal.

move to the midwest. you see them at least a couple of time a year. I love thunderstorms around here. almost as good as living near the ocean.
