Mammary Upgraid?

I'm in the process of upgrading a system w/ a new mobo and cpu. It would seem that the new setup is not too happy w/ my current ram. Here's the lo-down:

Old:
- ECS K7S5A, XP2000+, 2 x 512m PC2700 cas 2.5 ddr sdram

New:
- FIC AU13, XP3200+

The AU13 is id'ing the ram as 166mhz and I'm unable to get very far thru a windows install w/o the system crapping out.

Do I need to pump up the ram to something quicker to get this thing running properly?

tia.

Hehe, he means the title of this thread: "Mammary upgrade?"

The 166MHz thing is normal. 166MHz double data rate is 333MHz, exactly what PC2700 should be at. Try installing with just one stick of RAM in?

Well, my system already went t!ts-up so I guess the upgrade goes without saying.

System bus on the 3200+ is 200mhz (400 ddr), so the pc2700 ram can't keep up. Most MB's have an option to run RAM asynchronously (ie. at a lower speed). While it's not ideal, as it will slow down the system, it beats nothing if you can't afford faster ram. You want pc3200 ram, or faster if you want to overclock.

Overclocking is not a priority, but it seems that i'd be wasting the 3200+ by crippling it with too slow ram.

If you want a Mammary upgrade, does that mean you need advice on silicon implants? 😀

Yep, faster silicon is always a good idea. I got PC3200 so I could over clock my AMD XP2500+Barton at some point. It's be taking a back seat to my new 3.2 Ghz Pentium rig with 1 Gb of 533 mhz DDR2 memory and PCIe Radeon X800SE video card.
