Mame Help

I have a full size X-men 4 player arcade game. I want to put a mame machine in there and somehow splice the joysticks and buttons to work with the game. Does anyone know what the easiest way to do that would be?

If not, which MAME forums are the most active and helpful? Thanks.

well one day i hope to have my forums up and running.......

MAME Forum

and i'd appreciate it if maybe you logged your progress on my site......

but the most active one i think is MAME World

If you want to go the easy route...$130 for a 2-player joystick system:

Then get an Xbox and mod it to run MAME games. That's what I'm doing. My first Xbox, my media center unit, will be finished by the end of next week and will have MAME functionality. Total cost is under $150 for the Xbox, hard drive, modchip, and the rest of the setup. I'll post about it when it's done and PM you if you want more details. You'll need connectors for your arcade monitor and sound system, but it should be doable.

Nice. I think I'd rather use a PC. I have a spare one that will server my purpose, and for 4 players, it might be a little easier with a PC. I'll PM you if I have any questions. Thanks a lot.

Try running CarnEvil on your XBox. Not good. It should run some basic MAME games though.

Awhile back, there was a member on here that built his own MAME system from scratch. It was really a super-duper high octane system. He did all the research, construction, etc himself. Maybe someone knows who it was?

I think his username was MAME. 🙂

Okay, simply put. get a PC (if it's fast enough put XP on it, if not go the Linux route). For the video card, since you're using an actual arcade monitor, you'll want a special video card to drive it. For the controls, buy something like the key-wiz that lets you simply connect the buttons and map them to keyboard keys. The rest should be cake.

<--- in the middle of building a mame cocktail cabinet.

Yeah, I did some searching the other day with no luck. If you could post a link that'd be great!
