TOKN keyboard controller.

The TOKN KB16 is a commercial keyboard controller that is ideal for PC based products and applications such as multi-arcade (MAME) controllers and electronic casino game machines.

You can customize your application through the addition of external hardware controls including pushbutton switches, joysticks, coin doors, and more. Because the TOKN KB16 works either stand-alone or pass-through, it can work in conjunction with--or fully replace--the keyboard as the user interface for your application.

The TOKN KB16 provides a more simplified interface than a keyboard and helps restrict user input to a defined set of key presses. The boards can also be chained together in series to provide a virtually unlimited number of inputs.

A friend of mine devised this little critter. He's been bringing prototypes by every now and then for me to play with.

Um, I think the price is good, but last I checked (a year ago) more than one or two different products that do the same thing already exist...

Does a floppy cable only have 8 pairs of cables like in the picture? If so, you'd probably need to use at least two of those per player. One for an 8-way joystick and one for the buttons.

Pardon the ignorance, but the ports allow you to do what? And this connects where? I assumed most MAME machines had PC boards allowing you to connect kb, mouse, joystick, etc....

Well might be a reasonable buy for someone with only 16 different inputs...
However, what about a person like me with 4 players on one board. Thats 4inputs per stick...7 buttons per player.. thats already 16+ 28...44 inputs... add coins for each player...and start for each player and you already are up to 52 buttons.

The cost of adding 4 of these in order to accomodate that is 4x30 dollars...120 bucks. Much much more expensive than a Ipac. The thing wont even work for a 2 player play mame cabinet that does 2d fighter games. 8 inputs for the joysticks only leave 8 inputs for start buttons, coins, and fighting buttons. You WILL need 2 of these....and at 60 bucks for 2...you arent beating the other companies. They have flash programmable boards, which offer updates. Plus I doubt your programming utility for the board is as good as Ipac...as bad as that program is. I think he has to go back to the drawing boards and get more inputs....then he will have a market for this. Of course, a more capable chip will cost more money...and higher overhead.

www.ultimarc.com sells the ipac....i used it and love it.

I installed a trackball, boy do i love centipede, but i havent updated the pics. Tiger woods 2004/5 is a decent golf game on ...but i long for something better.
