It depends on your state and local laws. In Maryland, any private entity can have their security force sworn as special police officers, who have full police powers only on their property, including the right to be armed if that is specified in the permit application. Their badges do have to say "Special Police", but most places that have them give them actual badges, and the average person wouldn't notice the difference.
They can also be given limited responsibility for traffic enforcement in the immediate vicinity of the protected property, and I believe it also gives them the authority to chase a fleeing suspect off of the protected property if they have authorized emergency vehicles.
Most other states have something similar, but level of certification, vetting, and uniform requirements are vastly different between states.
