Mall Buffet style restaurants forget that the customer is in charge...

I was at a "country" buffet style restaurant the other day, you know, the ones where you pick "1 meat 2 veggies" or "2 meat, 2 veggies" and they scoop it up for you and you go. The meal was like $6. The lady serving was Asian, and considering the decor of the outside of the restaurant (looked like it had been converted from Asian style to country) I would be willing to put my life savings on the fact she was either the owner or related to the owner, I'm sorry but these scenerios can be pigeon-holed with near 100% accuracy...

Anyway, I didn't want my "free bread" and instead wanted just an equivalent amount of extra sweet potatoes. I wasn't trying to screw anybody, I just don't eat bread unless it is special high-fiber bread. She just gave me this "eat sh!t" look and said it wasn't possible and insisted I take the bread.

Why am I "crying" about this you ask? Just the fact that I hate places like this taking the customer for granted and forgetting who is in charge. In the future if I think I am skimped on a meat or I cannot get a simple request honored, I will tell them to take that tray of food, stick it straight up their a$$, and learn to respect the customer. We are still the boss....Anyway, just had to rant. Yes, it was kinda pointless, but I just had to get that off my chest.

sadly, customers are not the boss. The restaurant reserves the right to refuse service (and be pricks). I agree that the situation sucks.

a lot of places don't makes substitutes, imagine my shock when I was at TGIF and they wouldn't give me more steak because I don't like mixed veggies, those bastards!

hate to tell you this, but you are entitled to what's on the menu, nothing more nothing less. If you want it your way, I suggest you eat at Burger King.

The business is in charge, the customer just gets to choose whether to go there or not.

You said your bread was "free"....the rest of the meal you paid for.
So what gives you the right to say you want a free helping of potatoes instead of the bread which was free? When you had to pay for the potatoes which were NOT free?
You screwed up-- your fault!!!
All the other customers had to pay if they wanted extra potatoes!!
What gives you the right to think because you cannot eat the "free" bread they should give you something else that others have to pay for?

The customer is wrong in this case!!!!!!!!

But in the future, even if you don't want something it comes with, just ask for it on the side and then let it sit there. THey won't give you a discount if you don't take it so no sense saving them more money...

How is it a buffett if you cant go back and get more of whatever you want? If you want a freaking buffet, go to a buffet. Dont go to a place thats not a buffet and complain that it doesn't work that way.

What a waste of food. I'd rather just let the business keep the food rather than purposefully waste it just to get back at them...

LOl @ entitlement. And yeah, I am not going to make it in this world. I just got done working for the past 2 years to save up enough money for college so I won't ever have to work more than part-time again if I don't want to. I have A's in all my classes and I will be a pharmacist or PA one day. I know nothing about the real world...yeah...sure.

All I am saying is I eat out about once every 2 months. So for all you people who say the customer is not in charge, then explain why they won't ever get any of my money? Unlike alot of people here, I actually can control myself and eat at HOME everyday if I want to. That $6 is a mistake I will not repeat ever again.

And yea, they can refuse service, and I can tell them to go F themselves too, and then make them waste the food that they already have put on the plate. WHO WINS THEN??? I'm the type who is glad to do it too... Not to mention the last time I didn't like the attitude of the Chick-Fil-A worker, I placed a larger order and then just drove off. LOL at the business winning.

I have a sense of negotiation and not getting screwed...I try to get my money's worth in any transaction. They are making a profit regardless, so I do not see the problem in trying to negotiate a more desirable result for myself.

Wow, you are even more of an ass than I first thought. You kind of define "petty".

It's pretty much because of people like you that the service employees are assholes... Just imagine how great their days would be if everyone had your attitude.

But in your original post, you had already gotten your money's worth......you were served exactly what you paid for. Now you're saying that you were trying to negotiate a better deal, I suppose that is to read more expensive servings of food for no more money. You were declined your offer, if you can call it that, and then come here to whine and ocmplain about it.

You were never screwed out of anything. And despite the fact that you were "negotiating" and the offer was declined, you said you wanted to "take that tray of food, stick it straight up their a$$..."

Now, when a car dealer declines your offer on a new or used vehicle and counteroffers, are you going to threaten to shove the vehicle up that salesperson's a$$, too?

You wanted an entitlement you feel you were owed because you wanted a substitution, the request was denied, the right of any establishment to do, and you practically go postal.

Grow up...........and I certainly hope you are never my attending PA.........I'd hate to see what your bedside manner is like when you really hit the real world of recalcitrant and obstinant and sometimes combative patients.

Good luck.

Yeah, that is rather petty.

And while you might reserve the right to negotiate, as others have said, you are entitled to nothing beyond what's on the menu, or included in their regular "meal." If they decide to accommodate your request, great; if not, I see nothing wrong with their refusal.

Trying to somehow "get them back" for adhering to their menu and giving you what you're paying for is immature.

Did you already pay? If not, you should have taken the tray of food, toss it on the floor and walk out.
