Malicious Chrome extension

I recently reformatted a roommate's computer due to viruses I wasn't able to remove manually. One of the viruses manifested itself in the form of a Chrome extension, and now that I've reloaded Windows, I'm reluctant to have her sign back in to her Google account for fear that this extension may come back. Is it possible to remove an extension from a Google account so it isn't reloaded upon logging in, or at least check to see if it's a global extension before signing in?

What would you do?

What does the malicious extension do? Does it spam or affect her and her friends profiles, or does it affect the underlying computer somehow? If it's the second, why not just log in to her account from a library or VM or something to remove it?

Before reformatting her computer, I was unable to get the extension to go away. After deleting it (tried in developer mode) it would reappear upon reopening Chrome. It does things like spam her with ads, changes her homepage, and redirects her to web pages. I'm worried it might also collect passwords.

It might not be a global extension (?) and was only being reloaded by a virus I was unable to get rid of, but it seems a sound idea to sign into her account on a public computer. Thanks!

does she have any sort of virus protection?
I have used 3 different ones in the past and they each protected the home page from being changed!

Possibly this is not an extension of chrome?

Possibly this is due to her web surfing habits.....

Good Luck!

I didn't think to write down the name of the extension before wiping her hard drive, but it shows up in Chrome's extensions page. I had BitDefender on her PC when she got her viruses, and tried switching to Malwarebytes for disinfection (which also failed). Both found viruses on her PC but failed to remove them.

I'm certain her browsing habits are to blame, that she downloaded and installed something she shouldn't have, but don't want to reintroduce it back onto her PC when I reload Chrome and its extensions.

well, using this site if i understand correctly, you can clear the relevant chrome profile and start fresh.

also, in chrome, you can choose to only sync certain things. you can choose no to sync extensions for her profile. just saying.
