This happened locally, a male teacher had sex with one of his 16 y/o female students. He is arrested, charged, convicted of something where he doesn't have to do prison time but is no longer allowed to teach and is a registered sex offender.

He opens a printing business, not far from a elementary school. His wife opens an ice cream shoppe just adjacent to this school.

Some parents are in an uproar, and others are not concerend. Guess which parents are more outspoken? Do you think there is really cause for concern? They claim the ice cream will lure the kids to this perv.

Obviously though, there were no provisions by law saying he had to stay away from children or else he wouldn't be allowed to have businesses so close to a school, so that is all legal.

I wonder what he was charged with? I'm also curious as to why he would be able to open a business within in the vicinity of a school.

Sex offender laws are stupid, and abused. I don't even care about the circumstances. The whittling away of freedoms in the names of "the children" and "terrorism" is getting old quick. The USA is on the fast track to 3rd world nation status.

Referencing the above, I think you know what I think of the whining bitch parents, and nanny staters ;^)

There's a difference between a predator and bad judgement. Yes, I think what he did was somewhat outside acceptable norms, but it's not like he's a serial rapist (yet).

Good god... After this thread and the other one about the shit cop that killed two girls just this morning alone I can already tell I'm going to have a depressing day.

How anyone can have ANY "American pride" is beyond me. This country fucking sucks.

Fear is a powerful tool for keeping people ignorant and from questioning authority.

Screw the self righteous that are in an uproar. Like to see in their closets.

I don't think it's that big a deal opening a print shop near the elementary school. He's a sex offender because he had (I presume) consensual sex with a minor. He's not likely to go after any school kids.

If he's smart, he's going to stay away from his wife's ice cream shop. No need to provoke anything. If he were smarter, he wouldn't have opened up a print shop anywhere near a school.

Kids or not, my wife would drop me in a heartbeat. He cheats and with a minor at that. F-ed up.

This nonsense needs to stop. A 16 year old is absolutely capable of making their own decisions.

Why are we ruining these peoples' lives for being human? There is a reason men will take a chance ruining everything they have just to get a little nookie on the side. It's much more than just a simple desire. It's a biologically driven need.

It also happens that young females are seen as obvious candidates, since they're symbols of fertility and all. Go figure.

I still think we should better segregate types of sex offenders. Why spend time looking at a 17 year old that got a BJ from his girl friend when a guy that raped a 6 year old is the one you should be keeping an eye on? It's like classifying shop lifting and armed robbery the same since both were stealing stuff.

If it was consensual sex, he's not a predator. He's just labeled as one because of a law, there should be no problem. Sixteen is legal is some states, illegal in others. He's not some pedophile.

Back up Eli. He was a teacher, and married. Does that change your view?

I don't see him as a pedophile either, but he did use his position as this girl's teacher to sack her.

16 is the age of consent in much of the country. I think he probably abused his authority as a teacher but if this was a consensual relationship I hardly think it makes him some kind of dangerous sex predator (and I have dealt with some truly heinous sex offenders, so it's important to me to distinguish the sheep from the goats, as it were).

I don't know the specifics of his case, so I'm not going to comment on the "sexual predator" outcome.

I do think there are built in safeguards that come with that verdict though, like having to register in your town/city. I am pretty sure it also has a clause that would keep them from being too close to schools, etc.

(WTF with the wife situation?!? Curb. You. Kicked to it.)

Proof? I think you're just projecting.

Further, depending on the state and if the teacher is young enough, it could be law-legal. Though I don't know if schools have specific rules prohibiting teacher-student relationships.
