Male Birth Control Injection

Men could soon choose birth control injections

A large study published Monday in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism indicates that testosterone shots for men may aid in birth control, according to a report by UPI news agency.

A study in China of more than 1,000 men between the ages of 20 and 45 showed 99 percent success rate at preventing pregnancy.

"This one measures up pretty well," said Nancy Snyderman, NBC News Chief Medical Editor. "Obviously when we talk about ways of preventing pregnancy, we talk about birth control pills, condoms, IUDs. One thing that young people want to know, if you're talking about birth control pill and condoms, you're talking about reversible forms of birth control, you're not talking about having a vasectomy, having tubes tied. The fact that you can have an injection, that it works while you take it, but when you stop it you get sperm counts back, that's very interesting in this study."

If I could ensure that my sperm would not impregnate an egg, I would do it in a heart beat.

What's weird is that they're actually injecting you with MORE testosterone... might that actually help with stuff like lifting?

Yeah, possibly. Tough to say, but that's what you get with a shitty news article.

If it's the girl's decision 100% on what happens to a baby if she gets pregnant, it should be 100% her responsibility to do what she needs to do.

and if she gets pregnant, will you do what you need to do?

i hate sexist jackasses who put the whole responsibility on the woman.

be a man, and do what you need to do.

i stand by my response in this topic...
"the chinese can't even make a decent bicycle. i'm not injecting any of their shniz into my body."

yeah theres nothing wrong with the pill. many health benefits of it...so why the male options?
because it's a good idea to CYA in case they don't hold up their end of the deal? someone who's taken her pill looks the same as someone that hasn't...

Then why not do your part to help PREVENT unnecessary pregnancies?

The law, and society, gives 100% of the decision making process to a female in a pregnancy situation. Therefore, if they wish to use birth control, they can.

I for one wear a condom.

Are you only wearing the condom to prevent STDs? Otherwise aren't you taking some responsibility for the birthcontrol as well?

Mostly for STD's. But obviously yes, I don't want to purposely try to get someone pregnant.

its the kinda thing you'd use if you were rich or something and didn't trust the girls you were with.

you wouldn't tell anyone thats for sure. i guess its a good thing to have as a possibility.

certainly no woman is going to believe you if you say you were on it though lol🙂

Not unless it's also 100% her responsibility to deal with the child if she decides to keep it instead of aborting it or giving it up for adoption.

Because men and women share child-rearing responsibilities, they also share the responsibility to use birth control properly. Even if that doesn't mean you both going on hormonal birth control, it does mean making sure the man reminds the woman to take her pill, or the woman to remind the man to wear a condom. Hopefully you trust your girlfriend/wife enough to take her pill every day, but if she's very forgetful or you just want to be sure, it'd be nice to have your own option as well. The consequences of screwing up are life-changing.

BTW, as far as the way the thing actually works... I am not a doctor nor do I claim to know anything about this injection, but it seems to me that it might work by tricking your body into thinking you already have enough sperm. Just as the female birth control pill works by making her body think it's pregnant, this male birth control injection makes his body think it's producing plenty of sperm when in fact it is not. I don't know, just an educated guess. I would think that would be much more reliable than trying to actually kill every last sperm as it's produced.

Agreed.

Dandy, just what we need - guys with even more testosterone. Too many people seem barely capable of adequate control over their own behavior with just the amount given to us by nature.
