I don't have details but to assume that this is exclusive to a group of people is ridiculous. To bring up actual instances does no service simply because we are limited to only what we are AWARE of - and there is much we are NOT aware of. In the instances I CAN think of the situation is just as bad - in Liberia many Muslims were/are forced to be Christians when taking political power as president or some other office through an unfair policy of "christianization". I agree with you that people should have the freedom to select the religion they want, and the freedom to be "Free" from religion and not partake in it if they don't choose to.

The actions by these people are "evil" in that regard- one cannot dictate to another what they should or should not believe. Don't think I don't agree with you there. But where I laugh is because you assume this "evil" is ISLAM, or that you are suspicious that of ISLAM. Maybe when you convince to me that the religion itself is at fault I will stop "sermonizing"....all I see are people not correctly applying basic precepts of religion.
You need to realize that when you say you "my fear of islam is legitimate" you act as if these actions are VALIDATED by Islam. I can tell you, they are NOT. We can look at the Quran if you want to. Looking at the situation, I think a more apt statement is, "My Fear and Suspicions of Authoritarians are legitimate" because this is clearly the government trying to control people's lives, regardless of whether it is about religion or if it is about the economy.

Btw, don't assume what I do and don't do with "radicals" in my faith. I may be active in talking to "radicals" and showing them what I would consider Islam without the culture B.S. where a person came from, and I may not say a word...but don't assume just because I do spend quite a bit of time on AT that I don't engage in dialog elsewhere (assuming I do).

Isn't Malaysia supposed to be a modern nation?

Malaysia may have a good economy but it is hampered by corruption, poor education and political racism against minority groups, as well as the religious prosecution stuff posted here. Not exactly a hellhole, but still...

Last time I checked over 88% of Malaysia was literate. Malaysia is much richer than many other nations in Asia. So what's the problem?

You just want to say its Islam. Pretty shallow conclusion - grow up with hatred towards other religions. The more you lash out irrationally, the more you'll empower radical Muslims because the "average person" will fear and be suspicious of you...rather you trust the corrupt Muslim than someone of your nature.

Of course I agree this is absolutely wrong, but these problems kind exist everywhere...

Read the Koran. It is very clear, apostates must be executed.

You do admit there are a lot of things you don't know and I do admit that as well. But what I also do know that as a general muslim societies discriminate against people of other religions in one form or another.

Your example of Liberia works against your own viewpoint. Unlike Malaysia, Liberia is a developing nation and to think of muslims occupying high offices while being only 20% of the population (which is itself only 40% literate) speaks volumes about how prejudices can be absent inspite of wretched economic or social conditions. What does this speak about Malaysia or Saudi Arabia which are both prosperous and educated, but still discriminates against people of other religions?

And you claim such discrimination is unislamic? What's that, a joke? All religions have problems, but it's only Islam which refuses to moderate itself and it looks like it would never do so irrespective of modernization, education or even civilization.

Tell me again, why should I not be suspicious or fear of Islam?
