Making TNT explode without a blasting cap

Just hypothetically, could you use ammonium nitrate (with 70/30 methanol/nitromethane as a sensatizer) an intermediate, and gunpowder as a primary, to detonate TNT? The gunpowder should generate enough blast presure and heat to make the ammonium nitrate go, and that certainly should make the TNT go.

Still not a terrorist. Just interested in explosives and chemistry.
 
You aren;t going to find help with this here. If you are interested in explosives and chemistry, I suggest you join the Military or the FBI and request demolitions training.
 
There are 4 types of people who work with explosives:

A) trained professionals with a lot of education and background in dealing with the explosives
B) Terrorists willing to blow themselves to smithereens
C) People missing a bunch of fingers
D) Lucky.

Since you've excluded yourself from groups A and B, then you're placing yourself in C or D. Which you go into is almost like flipping a coin.

When I was young in the middle of the last century every kid in my circle of friends made bombs of one kind or another. You knew you had reached nirvana when all the steel parts of your bomb that you could recover had turned blue. We finally had to curtail our efforts when the federal railroad police came around complaning abut the shrapnel raining down on the railroad yards. Kids now days are a bunch of imaginationless whimps.
