After hemming and hawing over whether to slowly crawl into the modern era using gap boards like the AsRock 4coredual-VSTA, I have decided to jump feet first into the fire. No more iffy overclocking performance for me! I want a board that will clock!

Here's the rub, I acquired a Gainward 6800GS GLH from a friend (cheap) and as an AGP only card I really wanted to drag this card with me as long as I can. But I just think the time has come. So, here's what I was thinking:

Asus P5N-E SLI 650i SLI (open box for $93.99)

EVGA 7600GS 256MB PCI-E x 16 ($69.99 w/ MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130075

I've read reviews on the board and it sounds perfect. The card is less than thrilling, I don't think that it'll outperform my Gainward in many scenarios but before I spend good money on a card I want to see what happens with the 8x00 midrange cards.

So, any other suggestions? Other competitive cheap boards and impressive cheap cards to fill the gap till 8x00 cards develop? Help appreciated!

PS - If you have anything good to trade for the Gainward, we can talk.

The Asus P5N-E is a fine board and has the performance abilities of its more expensive counter parts (P5N32-E, Plus, Striker Extreme) minus the bells and whistles and lack of dual 16x pci-e.

Its a good board. Also, I think the 7600GS should hold you over fine until the 8600's are released.
