Making System Restore Run Less Often (Vista)

Since they took out the ability to backup the system state, it looks like I have to use System Restore to make backups in case my Vista installation gets corrupted. It seems to make automatic restore points daily when I'm actively using my computer at night, which slows it down a lot. The process takes about 30-60 minutes.

Vista seems to ignore the registry settings located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore.

Is there a way to stop the automatic restore points completely?

Go to the task scheduler and find the system restore task. Export the task, then delete it. Import the task you just exported, it'll now give you the option to modify the behavior.

So simple I never would've thought of it, a good tip! 😀
