hey i was reading a thread and i think tunaboo and a coule of others had posted that they just fold the flat ribbon cables in on themselves and either wire tie or tommy tape them....well i did this with a 68pin lvd scsi cable and the first connector nearest the terminator will read my cheetah only at 40 instead of 160...ran sandra on the drive and sure enough kills performance...well i moved further down the chain and was able to get it back using another connector to 160...but what do you think might be causing this and can you just not wire tie a scsi cable

perhaps it has something to do with some kind of wire static interference that occurs when you group the wires too closely to each other? Not sure, just a guess. So after the round job, it went from 160 to just 40? Hmmm...

yes but apparently jsut on the one connector closest to the terminator at the end of the cable.....the second drive showed at 160 at the adaptec boot screen....so i just switched where on the cable i plugged the drive in and that worked to correct it

Possible you have a loose wire in your cable (at that one connector) and the extra stress of folding over and tying the cables is pulling that critical wire loose from the connector?

LVD U160 is real easy to create interference. FOlding IDE is fine, but I havent felt like folding 68 pin LVD yet (even tho it has CRC and should be okay even with crosstalk).

That haven't happened to any of mine (X15 Cheetahs) on Twist-N-Flat Ultra160 "rolled" (taped round) cables. Are you using Ultra160/LVD cable or U2W/LVD cable? (there could be a difference if you are using the latter)

The ultra160/lvd cables seem very thin and brittle, not as flexible too. Wouldn't you highly risk damaging the wires when bending or twisting them? They're already short as it is, mine being just 2-connectors.

mmm....well no its a 160 twist-n-flat....they were like 70 bucks....one cable came witht he mobo too....but havent folded that one yet...was going to buy the rounded but plycon was out of them and saw that post about making them...thought i would give it a try...but like i said other then the one connector the rest are fine...i will take it appart and re-fold and tie it later and see if it makes a difference
