Making pull-ups / chin-ups harder

Hi,

bragging aside I can do 3-4 sets of 10+ pull-ups / chin-ups, so it's not really a good workout for me anymore (I want 2 sets ~ 8-10 reps). Short of attaching a weight to my belt, how can I make this exercise harder? Most gyms have vertical row machines, but if I try to lift more than my own weight I'll just come off the bench 🙂

thanks.

stay in shape.

maybe get some of those rubber tubes and tie one end to the floor or a rock or somethin and the other end to your feet / belt?

What's there to brag about 😛.

If you do not wish to use a weight belt, you must increase the number of reps. Try to do twenty reps for two sets. This is the standard military PFT score of 100 points, so it is a good goal to get to. If and once you find that to be too easy, start working on one arm pullups which require a great amount arm, grip, and back strength. Also, try alternate grips to increase difficulty.

well, other than an actual weight belt... a trick i used to do when i couldn't make it to the gym was to find a decent backpack and fill it with anything heavy i could find - jugs of water, books, bricks, etc... you can then wear it while you do pull ups and pushups and it can add a good amount of resistance. not the most comfortable thing on earth, but it gets the job done.

i've seen people loop handtowels over the bar and grip the loose ends of them instead of the bar and try to do pull-ups.

I do this one, just use one towel and then switch sides, will destroy your lats.

Wider, slower.

I don't care how in shape you are, wide, slow pullups are very tough.

The wider you go, the more you are working your lats.

Just curious why you don't want to wear a weighted belt? I have done that with dips to make them harder.

Man, I am looking for a way to make pullups easier!

I like that! a backpack with a couple a dumbell would work great. I could increase the resistance very gradually.

I'll just have to explain why I'm putting a dumbell in my backpack and walking out of the weight room 😀

Seated lat pull downs won't work? Most have a padded bar that you place your knees under. I pull down weight > my own body weight with an ultra-wide grip . It's kinda tough getting down the first time, but then you lock your legs under the bar and you're all set.

you can hold a dumbell with your legs

I see that quite often. Also, I see belts lying around the gym that you can wear and attach plates to them that dangle between your legs as you do you pull-ups.

How about this for an invention: a belt you put around your show or ankle with a small hook or locking mechanism to securely attach a plate or dumbell?

lol I don't need motivation, I need more resistance. (do it in Iraq?)

We don't have alligators 🙁

To switch it up, I use the weight belt, go wider, palms in, behind the neck...occasionally, I'll do it one-handed (bath hands on the bar for stability, use the non-work hand as little as possible)

Either that, or I just move to lat pull-downs
