I am planning to build a new system and considering Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5 Motherboard with Intel Core 2 Extreme Q6600.
Based on the above key components, I appreciate your views considering that system will not be used for games but for Digital Pictures (Nikon D300 and D70) and conversion of digital video (Captured thru CCC Digital Camcorder) to DVD.
If you think that there is better motherboard or processor, please feel free to advise.
The other question is that whatever motherboard you recommend, what kind of RAM I should get. Since I will be using Vista Ultimate (32 Bit Version) so I plan to keep the RAM up to 2 Gigs only. However, I will be looking for the fast RAM with lower latency & FSB either from Corsair, Kingston or Mushkin (I plan to restrict myself to DDR2 - Is it a good decision or you suggest to go for DDR3). The recommended memory sticks should be compatible with the motherboard.
Video Adapter (PCI Express) - preference is towards ATI based board however open to suggestions linked to performance. ATI Chip based adapters by other manufacturers will be appreciated. No plans to add another video adapter.
Recommendation on power supply (make and watts) and casing will be appreciated as well.
