Why do you want to build your own system?

ehh my friends are always recommending it and i figure i can get the best comp for cheaper than if i make it. I was exaggerating a little heh when i said i was computer illiterate although i might just stick my CPU into the ram slots and my ram in a PCI slot heh, but thats purely cuz im a klutz. And hey, its a good time as any to start learning and my dell is about to die.

Hey go for it. You will learn alot. I think you have made some good choices. I am building a system very simular to that. You can get away with value ram though if you want too. Do you plan on overclocking this machine?
I am going to use this same motherboard but you should know this is a very new board with all the lastest stuff and it may have some bugs to work out.

Everything looks perfect except the RAM. I would just get some good ol' corsair or mushkin value RAM. If you are OCing, running a divider will not hurt performance noticeably, and if not OCing, it will perform exactly the same. Value RAM can be had for under $140, so that will save you some serious cash.

I like the case, mobo, CPU, video, HDD, and PSU. I don't know much about the LCDs. Have you read alot of the LCD reviews. I'm sure you could find some great comparisons between all the diffrent monitors in your price range so you could find the best one.

Great system! It shouldn't be too bad to put it together. I just built my first one last week. I did it all in about 4 hours, but 1 of that was eating dinner... there are some great guides for first timers as well. MechBgon (google it) has an excellent guide that helped me greatly.

You don't need to buy expensive memory. Value RAM almost as good as buying "fast" RAM or low latency RAM without spending 50%-150% more $$. I would recommend getting less expensive RAM.

Read the following thread about this topic
RAM OVERVIEW

Looks like you did your homework. Nice system

cool thanks guys, ive switched too Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200 - OEM
its 134 so im saving over 50 bucks. im planning to run it at stock speeds so i guess value ram'll be fine for me :) ill be ordering sometime today, heh vastly excited.
edit: ehh im just taking my dvd burner from my old dell and putting it on. Im not really interested in getting a new one although i hear NEC makes good ones, and integrated sound is fine for me :)

Also go for the 450W Modstream instead of the 520. Save yourself some cash. You won't need 520 anyway, 450 is more then enough for the system your powering.

There's nothing wrong with the case. It got stellar reviews from just about every place I've read. The only thing wrong is you giving a bias opinion on your tastes to influence someone else to make a decision they might regret.

i did compare the case to the coolermaster cavalier and i thought this would be better. I read a review that the coolermaster's rear fan didnt move much air. I also considered the wavemaster but i reallly reallly wanted a side window heh so thus i ended with the conclusion teh dream tower would be nicest :p

Thanks for all your opinions and saving me 50 bucks on taht ram heh. Im gonna be ordering soon and i cant wait :)

blackinches thinks you should consider getting two hard drives. one for the system and one for data. for an optical drive check out the nec nd3520a its cheap fast and good. as for the lcd anantech just put up a review of the dell 19in panel. it uses the same panel as the samsung 193p, so you know it will be good. also with dell rebates and coupons you can probably get it for under 400.

I think it more just because most Thermaltake products are crap. Especially their PSU's. Their PSU's may work, but there are much better options.

Well when you say something is crap, that's just as bad as saying that you hate it. Besides, that's irrelevant to the point.

I didn't say it wasn't an opinion. I just asked why most of the Anandtechers dislike Thermaltake.

Well I have a thermaltake case now and I have been happy with it. On a new system I am building I am going with the wavemaster because I like the looks of it and it seems like a quality case and has the removable motherboard tray. I wish it had 120m fans but I guess I cant have everything. I am sure you will be hapy with your case.
