Making MP3 computer for car - AMD K6 233 or Pentium 200 MMX going to be faster?

As topic says, which will be faster at booting up into a stripped down Windows 98?

I'd say go for the AMD.

That would depend mainly on your hard drive speed.

The hard drive is going to be a 40gb 4600rpm.

With Either CPU, it would probably take about 20-25 seconds to boot.

AMD would be faster, but Pentium would be little cooler and both are overkill for playing mp3's anyway I would put Win95, DOS or linux into mp3 player: all those would boot way faster than Win98 (I remember that freshly installed Win95 booted on K6-200 with slow HDD under 10 sec.).

I am using my iPAQ as the "display" using Snowcrash so i'll need to run the HTTP server within that plugin, and also ActiveSync for the iPAQ

So that rules out Linux, maybe 95

First: the k6-233 is a bad choice, it was a hot motha.
Second: If I were you I would get one of the newer cxt core k6-2 400's or 450 and underclock it to around 200 mhz. It will run much cooler than either the P233 or the k6233.
Here is a k6-2 500 for around 20 bucs.
