i remmber a couple years back i came across this program that made midis sound alot better, but it slowed down ur machine alot

If you have a SB Live! can't you upgrade the GM soundfont bank? Of ourse I know you mean something completely different.

There was/is a Yamaha software MIDI synthesiser. I played around with it a year or so ago, but it can really tax your cpu at times.

Wow, blast from the past! You've got to be talking about WinGroove.

Of course, the Live! cards among all other newer soundcards don't need this emulation whatsoever, they naturally have this sound quality.

Most of Creative's cards, starting with the AWE64 Gold already have the capability to use high-quality wavesets for MIDI instruments without having to resort to software synthesizers. The Sound Blaster Live!, for example, came with the 8MB E-mu SoundFont bank, which actually sounds pretty darn good when compared to a good software-based synthesizer. I'm not sure whether or not they still include the 8MB bank with the Audigy, so owners of that card might want to poke around on the installation CD for it.
