Making Lost Planet Smoother

Currently, Lost Planet is extremely choppy, I would say less than 10 FPS. I have tried all settings from medium to low, it doesn't really make a difference. I was wondering if there was any way to turn HDR completely off? My processor is a major bottleneck, it is a first-generation (Clawhammer) Athlon64 at 2.0GHz.
 
drivers? lower resolution?

my brother ran it fine (albeit low res, low detail) on a Sempron64/1gig ram/6600GT
 
Lower resolution is an option, but I have an LCD, so lowering resolution would result in unbearable image skewing.
