Making Divx movies brighter in Windows media player (win xp)

anyone know how to make the divx videos in windows media player in winxp brighter? I'm turning up the brightness and rgbs all the way up in the video properties to the point where it's burning my retinas and the videos are still dark as before... WHATS GOING ON ARRRRRRRRGH
 
Have you adjusted Media Player's Video settings? Have you adjusted you video card's overlay properties? (If it has any.) They should be in the screen properties nested deep if you have an nvidia card. Ati cards have a little tray utility I believe.
 
View > Now Playing Tools > Video Settings

That will show you some easy-to-use video configuration settings in WMP 7/8.
