Making Circular writing

Does anyone know how I could make writing follow the shape of the circle without major photoshop work?

no, you are right....pick a straight wordart, insert it, then from the wordart toolbar, change the shape. There's a circle..semicircle....3d circles, etc

Make a circular path in photoshop. Use the "text along a path" tool to put text on it. You can do the same thing in Illustrator.

You can use gimp - as I remember there are some nice other things to do

Illustrator will be a better choice. AI is a vector based program and your print out will be very sharp and you can define your curve easily.
If that's not your cup of tea, use MS Word.
